Burlington is a picturesque city located along the shores of Lake Champlain in Northern Vermont. Burlington is about 45 miles from the U.S.-Canadian border and about 94 miles from Montreal. The city is the most populous in Vermont, but actually ranks as the smallest city that is the most populous in its state.
Burlington is well-known as being home to the University of Vermont, University of Vermont Medical Center and birthplace of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Burlington is also home to Champlain College, the city’s smaller higher-learning institution. Burlington has a vibrant arts community and has several points of interest that draw tourists from Canada, New England and other parts of the U.S. In recent years, Burlington has established itself as one of the top dining destinations in Vermont, as well as a hotbed for microbreweries.
Given its waterfront location, Burlington relies on Lake Champlain to drive much of its summertime tourism. Burlington is also a popular region to visit in autumn and winter giving its proximity to nearby ski resorts.
