At LogiWorld, we have handled several car shipment projects for clients of all sizes. As with any exporting project, there are a number of tasks that need to be completed before your automobile is ready to be shipped across the world. By checking the following items off of your pre-shipment checklist, you can ensure that you comply with local and international regulations, while also making sure your automobile reaches its destination in one piece.
Batteries, Fuel and Tires
To make the car shipment process seamless for the recipient (including yourself), it’s best to make sure your car is shipped with a charged battery, at least one-quarter tank of gas, and properly-inflated tires. Checking these items off of your list reduces the possibility of any operational issues with your vehicle upon arrival.
Check for Leaks
The last thing that anyone involved with the car shipment wants to deal with is a mess upon delivery. If able, ensure your vehicle is not leaking any fuel, coolant or any other fluids. Leaks can be hazardous for personnel handling the shipment and pose a serious safety risk. Similarly, it’s recommended to keep an eye on and report any new mechanical or performance issues that arrive close to the shipment date.
Interior Items
It’s best to remove any GPS navigation systems, dashboard mounts, parking passes, toll transponders, or any other items that did not come standard with the vehicle. Another item that sometimes gets overlooked is not disabling the alarm system prior to shipment.
A Clean Car is a Happy Car
It’s recommended that you thoroughly clean your vehicle in order to fully prepare it for shipment. If the vehicle is dirty, it can cause issues with regards to properly inspecting the vehicle.
Exterior Items
Outdoors enthusiast? Make sure to remove any bike or ski racks prior to shipment. Not doing so can add to the weight of the shipment, while also causing logistical issues when loading/unloading the vehicle. Other items that can fall into this category are grill or bumper guards, detachable fog lights and exterior spare tires — all of which need to be removed prior to departure.
These are just some of the many items that need to be taken care of prior to the car being shipped. For more information, or to request a car shipment quote, please contact LogiWorld today.
